September 6, 2007 -- This morning in the standing committee on Public Accounts, David Sweet, MP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, passed the following motion with the unanimous consent of the committee members: “That the Standing Committee on Public Accounts of the 1st session of the 39th Parliament do commend, in alphabetical order, Staff Sergeant Michael Frizzell, Staff Sergeant Ronald Lewis, Chief Superintendent Fraser Macaulay, Ms. Denise Revine, Assistant Commissioner Bruce Rogerson, and, Staff Sergeant Stephen Walker, For their continued efforts to expose the mismanagement of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police pension and insurance plan administration in the face of great personal and professional hardship, For their unwavering commitment to justice and accountability, For their dedication to ensure the Royal Canadian Mounted Police remain a cherished national symbol, with the full confidence of both its members and the Canadian public, And for their embodiment of the core values of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: integrity, honesty, professionalism, compassion, respect and accountability. And that this motion be reported to the House.” "I would like to personally thank the individuals mentioned in my motion for their outstanding efforts to ensure that justice was done," said Sweet. "Their testimony before the committee was invaluable in bringing to light the scope of this scandal. I am pleased that members of all parties could come together to recognize these deserving individuals." One of the strong recommendations of David Brown's report on the Pension and Insurance funds mismanagement was that public recognition be given to those individuals who continued to push for accountability at the expense of their own self interest. David Brown is currently chairing a task force on the governance and culture of the RCMP. The Ottawa Police Service criminal investigation of the pension and insurance fund mismanagement has been turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police to determine if a new criminal investigation is warranted. A new commissioner to the RCMP, Mr. William Elliott, was recently appointed. |
