Canada Summer Jobs Program 2020

Changes announced to help create up to 70,000 jobs for youth

The federal government announced changes to the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program yesterday to help create summer openings for up to 70,000 youth as we deal with the COVID-19 crisis in our communities.

These enhancements will include:

• an increase to the wage subsidy, so that private and public sector youth employees under CSJ can receive up to 100 per cent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for each employee

• an extension to the end date for employment to February 28, 2021

• allowing employers to adapt their projects and job activities to support essential services

• allowing employers to hire staff on a part-time basis.

Organizations that did not apply previously for the Canada Summer Jobs program will have another opportunity to offer job placements that provide essential services. For example, local food banks and other not-for-profit organizations.

Keeping in mind the safety of everyone, some suggested types of work could include:

· Supporting community programming: This could include jobs with small businesses or organizations that are using digital tools for preparation and delivery of programming, such as youth education and recreation activities, or community support services such as tele-health and online health services.

· Supporting Canada’s food security and supply chains: This may include jobs at local co-ops, farms, and/or food distribution that play a critical role to Canada’s food security.

· Filling temporary vacancies due to COVID-19: This could include clerical or administrative positions in small businesses or not-for-profits where older staff are required to stay home with children and/or avoid the workplace due to other COVID-19 related issues.

· Supporting for vulnerable populations: This may include local activities to support populations facing new vulnerabilities under COVID-19, such as seniors or persons with disabilities.

More information on the adjusted timing and new flexibilities in the CSJ program will be available next week.

This morning I spoke with John Moore on NEWSTALK1010 to discuss why Ontario is ready to safely move into the Green level of pandemic restrictions.

David Sweet, M.P.i am sad and disappointed to hear that you want Hamilton to move from the red zone directly to the green zone. You obviously are worrying more about the economy of businesses and the almighty dollar instead of the health of human beings. I really thought you were a different type of conservative politician. There is more I could say but won’t.

And the usual comments flow! Look at the numbers holistically - Covid has a ~2% mortality rate and as such a ~98% survival rate!

Bravo, Mr. Sweet! Lockdowns are doing TEN TIMES more damage (at least) than the virus ever will. After a year now of succumbing to draconian and unnecessary measures, it's time to restore businesses' financial health and individuals' mental health and END THE LOCKDOWNS.

Thanks, but I think I'll get my advice from doctors and scientist and not from someone that went to florida during the travel restrictions!

Sad way to go out after years of distinguished service.

Thanks David for stepping up.

So glad you are listening... Premier Ford is not. Thank you.

Thank you Mr. Sweet! Thank you for standing up for us!

Thank you!

Good job David Sweet, M.P....heard the interview...well said and let’s get on with it !!!!

It starts with a few who have tremendous courage to stand up to the tyranny. Tyranny that is harming children in real time. David and Roman your work is appreciated.

I am not in your riding David Sweet, M.P., but THANK YOU for standing up for ALL Ontarians! Please push to remove the mask mandates also! They are so detrimental to the health and well-being of so many Ontarians. If someone chooses to wear a mask, that should be their choice.

Thank you! Every time the federal Cons call asking for money for a "snap election" I tell them that I will not support the party unless they come out against lockdowns. If O'Toole does to you what Ford did to Baber, I'll know rational thought no longer has a place in the party.

Thank you. Utmost respect for standing up against such a devastating tide of destruction!

Thank you for not being afraid to stand up for what's right!

Thank you David! Important our elected reps stand against the lockdown tyranny devastating numerous lives. Donna Skelly FordNation

I’ve got an idea. I think you should work in a crowded restaurant kitchen for a couple of weeks. And take public transit to get there. Then you can recommend ending the lockdown. You’re pretty quick to volunteer other people to take risks, aren’t you?

Thank you so much, David! It is wonderful to hear our area’s representative calling for the end of lockdowns. I am sad to hear that you will not be running for re-election.

Thank you David for speaking the truth about the lockdowns. I am all for ending them. I stand with you and Roman Baber

You just secured my vote next time around sir! Donna Skelley could learn from you...

I appreciate some people speaking for us that have no voice . No voice no democracy. Let's be cautious open with logic and stop fear .

Thank you David Sweet for publically standing up for truth. We pray for you in your position and are so encouraged by this public stand. Indeed, protect the vulnerable and keep those who are not at risk able to work and live and help Canada get through this pandemic. Thank you, and may the Lord bless you.

You have my support and my vote, David Sweet! Thank you for standing up for the people.

Thank you! Finally an MP standing up against their lies. We need more to be courageous.

Thank you for standing up for us!! Please push to have the mask mandates removed also, especially for our children!!

Thank you Thankyou!!!!!!!!! Finally an MP standing up against this tyranny!

Thank you for speaking out and for your wisdom, Mr Sweet. Praying for many more MP's to come forward against all the lies and destruction this has caused.

Thank you, David SO VERY MUCH for standing up! The lockdowns are truly devastating and cruel. By taking the lead, more people will come forward behind you! We just need a courageous leader!!!!

Ontario has had enough with their lies. We are not in this together. Never was and never will be

We need more courageous voices. While this took a long time, I appreciate you doing the right thing.

Thank you for standing up and making a difference! Please encourage your colleagues to do the same.

Are you out of your mind?. This is as stupid an idea as the dummies in the USA. Your call for ending lockdown is simply absurd.

Someone else who has finally stood up for the truth!

THANK YOU David Sweet. These lockdowns and drastic measures are causing more damage than good. It’s extremely reassuring to hear even a few of our officials speak up against this. Please be assured there are many constituents who stand behind you and Roman and your message. Please continue this work!

Thank you for having the courage to speak out. It is the people that voted you in to represent
